ONDURA/SHINGLE COMPARISON

We know that selecting a new roofing system is not easy. There are many options available and, like most other building products, each roofing system has its own pros and cons. In order to help you as you begin your evaluation, we offer here some thoughts and comparisons that you might find helpful.

Shingles are one of the most commonly used roofing products, yet they do have a few disadvantages. Shingles are generally only warrantied when applied by a certified installer. They can usually be installed over only 1 existing layer of shingles, meaning that extra time and expenses are often incurred for tearing off and disposing of old shingles or other roofing materials. Also, shingles are difficult to patch; whole areas generally have to be removed.

Below are some of the benefits of using Ondura in Re-Roofing applications:

  • Ondura can be applied over existing roofing, including shingles (up to two layers), metal and wood . . . without a tear-off

  • Save money with Ondura . . . the ability to roof over existing materials eliminates the expenses associated with removing existing roofing (and reduces landfill waste)

  • Ondura is lightweight (81 lbs. per 100 square feet), meaning that it won’t overburden structures; Shingles can weigh 210-360 lbs. or more per 100 square feet

  • Ondura easy to install using common tools and the Ondura Installation Guide

  • Ondura is backed by the industry’s only Lifetime Limited Warranty; most shingles offer only 20-30 year warranties
